The Institute for Social and Economic Development.  For two decades, ISED has supported people who work with the refugee community.  Most recently, we serve agencies who work with refugee small farmers.  We provide training and technical assistance for staff.  We have curriculum and learning materials you can access.  We host conferences and an email listserv.

OUR TEAM

Taylor Fourt

Taylor Fourth is a content development specialist, creating materials to make farming easy to learn.  She has been a working artist for a decade, with a love for watercolor and gouache painting.  She lives in the Paris of the Plains: Kansas City, Missouri.

Katie Painter

Katie Painter coordinates the creation and sharing of farmer learning materials and training-of-trainers for our partner organizations.  Her areas of expertise include sustainable and urban agriculture vegetable production for CSAs and Farmers’ markets, beekeeping and seed production.  Katie lives in Boise, Idaho.

Sandelis Miller

San is an artist, gardener, and green kitchen witch creating accessible and engaging learning experiences. They are a certified Educator for Sustainable Development skilled in adaptive arts and small-scale food and farm systems.  San grew food in iowa, minnesota, and north carolina before landing in their current home of kalamazoo, mi.

Hugh Joseph

Hugh Joseph, PhD, is Director of ISED Solutions.  He has spent his career developing community-based food, agriculture, nutrition and food security initiatives at the local, regional and national levels.  He started the New Entry Sustainable Farming Project – an immigrant farming initiative – in 1998.  He heads projects that develop and disseminate innovative T&TA resources for farmers, and provide technical assistance for applicants and grantees of the Community Food Projects Grants.
