ABOUT

ISED supports a network of refugee incubator farm programs around the U.S. These programs provide farmland, training and market access to beginning farmers who arrived as refugees.  Most growers are English Language Learners (ELL). We designed these resources to support ELL farmers, their trainers, and interpreters. But, anyone can easily use these resources.

Since 2015, we have created shared resources for refugee farmer training programs.   Many farming materials rely on a lot of written English.  Instead, we offer:

  • Information for small-scale producers of specialty crops.
  • Illustrated, visual materials.
  • Simple design and layout.
  • Plain Language, featuring shorter words and sentences.
  • Supports English Language Learners.
  • Language is easy for instructors to read or interpreters to interpret.
  • Print and digital formats available
  • Video and audio files available via YouTube.
